Chard reservoir, originally built in 1842 to supply the Chard Canal, has since transformed into a cherished Local Nature Reserve, earning the prestigious Green Flag Award for its well-maintained environment. This expansive body of water offers diverse recreational opportunities, attracting anglers with its healthy populations of carp, bream, and roach, while birdwatchers delight in the variety of avian species that frequent the area. Visitors are welcome to bring dogs to the reserve. However, a strict ‘dogs on short leads’ zone is enforced within the woodland area. Furthermore, dogs are prohibited from entering the woodland area adjacent to the bird hide.
