The Macmillan Way West, a 102-mile long-distance footpath, links Castle Cary in Somerset to Barnstaple in Devon, serving as a western extension of the broader Macmillan Way network. The trail commences by tracing the River Cary valley towards Somerton, then traverses the Somerset Levels to North Petherton, sharing a segment with the River Parrett Trail between Langport and Westonzoyland. From North Petherton, the path ascends the Quantock Hills, following their ridge and passing Will’s Neck, their highest point, before descending to Williton and Dunster. Continuing, it ascends to Exmoor’s Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on the moor, after passing Wootton Courtenay. The final 20 miles to Barnstaple coincide with the Tarka Trail, providing a diverse and scenic journey through the landscapes of Somerset and Devon.
