There’s something rather special about summer in South Somerset. The days are long, the countryside is buzzing with life, and there’s always something going on – whether it’s a traditional village fair, a relaxed cider-tasting afternoon, or a festival set in the grounds of a historic palace.
Here’s a round-up of what’s on this June and July – perfect for planning days out from Pitts Farm Cottages.

Cream Tea on the Mendip Belle – June to August
Running throughout the summer, this experience aboard the East Somerset Railway combines a leisurely steam train ride with a delicious cream tea – scones, clotted cream, jam, and plenty of tea. The train departs Cranmore Station at 3.30pm, and it’s a lovely way to soak up the Somerset countryside at a slower pace.

Cider Bus Saturdays at Burrow Hill – 7th June to 27th September
Every Saturday through the summer, the iconic Cider Bus parks up at Burrow Hill, offering chilled drinks, tasty street food (think tacos and flatbreads), and live music. It’s a proper Somerset experience – laid back, with plenty of space to enjoy the views over the orchards.

Green Scythe Fair – Sunday 8th June
Held at Thorney Lakes near Muchelney, this eco-conscious fair is unlike anything else. Think traditional scything competitions, sustainable living stalls, organic food, a cider tent, and live folk music. It’s a celebration of rural craft and community – great for families, and ideal if you like a bit of local character.

Stogumber Open Gardens – 14th & 15th June
If you love a good garden nosy, this is the weekend for you. The village of Stogumber opens up around 14 private gardens, all blooming beautifully in early summer. Expect a mix of wildflower meadows, kitchen gardens, and cottage-style borders. Teas and homemade cakes usually feature too.

History Live at The Bishop’s Palace, Wells – 14th & 15th June
Wells is worth a visit any time, but this weekend the Bishop’s Palace transforms into a hub of historical re-enactments. From medieval battles to Tudor dances and Victorian displays, it’s a fun, educational event in a stunning setting.

Langport Vintage Market – Saturday 14th June
Taking place at the Undercroft and Cocklemoor Car Park, this market is a treasure trove of vintage and antique finds. Expect everything from retro homeware and records to vintage clothing and handmade crafts.

Father’s Day Steam Up – 15th June, Westonzoyland Pumping Station
A brilliant outing for Dads (and anyone who love machines). The pumping station comes to life with over 30 stationary steam engines in operation, plus miniature train rides and interactive displays. A real step back in time.

Harry’s Cider Saturdays – 7th & 21st June, 5th & 19th July
Based just a short distance away, Harry’s Cider hosts relaxed open days with tastings, live music, and a variety of local and different food options at each event. You can stock up on cider to take home – or just enjoy the view with a pint in hand.
Pizza & Cider Nights at Harry’s – Friday 13th June & 11th July
For something a bit more low-key, these Friday evenings pair wood-fired pizza with excellent local cider in a casual outdoor setting. Great for couples or groups looking to unwind.

Summerset’s End Festival – Saturday 14th June, Langport
This community event brings Huish Episcopi alive with live music, family activities, food stalls, and a really friendly vibe. It’s perfect for dipping into during the day or bringing a picnic blanket and settling in.

Somerton Music & Arts Festival – July
This month-long festival is one of the highlights of the local calendar. From art exhibitions and comedy to open mic nights and orchestras, there’s something for everyone. Somerstock – the main music event – takes place 11th–12th July and brings big sounds to a small Somerset town.

Country Fest – Friday 11th July, The Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare
Love a bit of country music? Head to the seaside for an evening of country vibes on the iconic pier. Think line dancing, hats, and a fair bit of foot-stomping fun.

Party at the Palace – Saturday 12th July, Wells
This evening event is set in the Bishop’s Palace gardens and features live performances from local favourites including The Wurzels and Seth Lakeman. There’ll be food, drink, and dancing under the stars.

Yandles Summer Craft Market – Saturday 12th July, Martock
A day of handmade goodness awaits at Yandles – from wood turning and textiles to jewellery and prints. A lovely spot for finding a unique souvenir or gift.

Sherborne Classic & Supercar Show – Sunday 20th July
Taking over the grounds of Sherborne Castle, this huge show features more than 1,500 vehicles – from vintage Rolls-Royce’s to gleaming modern Ferraris. There’s live music, food stalls, and a buzzing atmosphere.

Somerset Steam & Country Show – 18th–20th July, High Ham
Expect vintage tractors, steam engines, rural crafts, trade stands, and a proper country show feel. It’s a big date in the local calendar – a real favourite with families, enthusiasts and anyone who loves a slice of countryside life. Great for all ages – and it’s just down the road!

Taunton Vintage & Salvage Fair – Sunday 27th July
If you love rummaging for unique finds, this is the event for you. From antique tools to decorative bits and bobs, it’s a dream for up-cyclers and vintage lovers.
Whatever you’re into – be it cider, crafts, gardens or good old-fashioned steam – summer in South Somerset has something to offer. Bring your walking shoes, your camera, and maybe a cool bag for local goodies… it’s going to be a packed season!
