A Whirlwind of Colour and Creativity

The Somerset carnival season is a one-of-a-kind experience, blending art, music, and the vibrant spirit of the community. Picture dazzling floats adorned with thousands of twinkling lights, moving in sync with lively music, while performers in elaborate costumes captivate the crowds. It’s a spectacular display that will leave a lasting impression.

These stunning parades take place in towns across Somerset, including Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Glastonbury, North Petherton, Shepton Mallet, Wells, and Weston-Super-Mare. Each location brings its own unique charm, making every carnival an unforgettable experience.

The impressive carnival carts are created by passionate carnival clubs from the West Country. These clubs, made up of many dedicated members, spend the year raising funds and working tirelessly to bring their creative visions to life. Their entries then join the parade, competing to dazzle both the audience and the judges. Some carts stretch up to 100 feet long, 16 feet tall, and 11 feet wide, and can be illuminated by as many as 30,000 light bulbs.

While the events are free, donations are encouraged, with all proceeds supporting local charities. A suggested donation of £1 per person is greatly appreciated. The entertainment is worth far more, so please give what you can to support the carnivals.
